Explorer has been recognized as a Distinguished School by the California Department of Education and as a Best Practices School by the San Diego Urban League.

The API measures the academic performance and growth of schools. The index (or scale) ranges from a low of 200 to a high of 1000. See current and past reports on the California Department of Education web site.
Academic Performance Index (API)

Public schools throughout California are required to provide information about themselves to the community in the form of an annual
School Accountability Report Card (SARC). These report cards provide data related to demographic information, school safety and climate for learning, academic data, class size, teacher and staff information, curriculum and instruction, fiscal and expenditure data.

In addition to standardized testing, Explorer’s faculty has adopted a series of authentic assessment practices to guide instruction.
