Louis Armstrong and Jazz
First Grade, Glenda Kacev
“First we introduced jazz by listening to music and dancing to the rhythm. Then we talked about Louis Armstrong and listened to his music. We listened to ‘What a Wonderful World” and we read a book about it. The children did ‘research’ at home – asking their parents what they knew about jazz and Louis Armstrong and then reported to each other on what they had found out. They are getting the idea of what research is. Each child chose one line of the song, copied it out and did an illustration.”
