Principal's Message

In the past six years, Explorer Elementary Charter School has gone from being an idealistic dream to a successful reality. In looking at our accomplishments, I am confident that both Explorer's emphasis on social and emotional intelligence and our exemplary teaching have contributed to our success as a learning community.

In emphasizing the things we value, emotional intelligence and academic excellence, Explorer draws from research and experience. Research indicates that social and emotional skills create higher achievement, and that emotional intelligence increases focus, learning and collaboration and improves classroom relationships. And our educational emphasis on strategies for higher learning, including analytical concepts, allows us to explore subjects with a depth and complexity we value as a learning community.

In our classroom communities, teachers are the decisive element. It is the teacher’s response to students that governs the learning that takes place. Explorer’s teachers know that they have an indelible impact on the lives of their students and think very carefully about each of them. Together, the faculty forms a powerful and dynamic network of thinkers who plan exquisitely for its students.

I am grateful for the honor of working in such a setting where parents and faculty fully understand the centrality of developing the individual spirit of every child, of developing the spirit in each of our lives, in our classrooms and the entire school community. The success of Explorer Elementary and the community that has been created here has been the high point of my professional life. And, more than ever before, I am unconditionally committed to our school’s mission to work to create thoughtful, empathic learners who understand the full meaning of the power of compassionate human interaction.
