School Administration

Jill Green: School Principal

Jill Green’s credentials and educational experiences are exceptional. She received her M.A. Degree from Pacific Oaks College in Early Childhood and Human Development. She holds an Elementary Teaching Credential (Life), a Community College Counselor License, and a Community College Teaching Credential (Life). Jill graduated Magna Cum Laude from U.C.L.A. and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Jill has taught college courses in early childhood development, worked as an educational therapist, and has been a mentor teacher. She was a director of two child development centers, and was the Principal of Beth Israel Day School for thirteen years. Explorer is indeed fortunate to have Jill as our educational leader.

 

Amy Araiza: School Administrator

Amy Araiza is a native San Diegan and a 15-year veteran teacher. As the first teacher hired by Explorer, Ms. Araiza has played a vital role in encouraging Explorer's growth and development. Amy has taught a variety of elementary grades including 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades. She has also enjoyed teaching Second Step, Explorer’s social emotional curriculum. In addition, she is working as an administrator coordinating a variety of programs for the school. This will be her second year teaching kindergarten one day a week with Mrs. Hawke. She holds a B.A. and teaching credential from University of San Diego.

 

Jan Economy: Administrative Assistant

Jan Economy began working for Explorer Elementary Charter School in 2004 and loves every minute of it! She is a parent of three, including one Explorer student and one High Tech Middle student. Jan's excellent organization keeps the school running smoothly. Her kind smile and down-to-earth demeanor make children, parents and visitors feel at home at Explorer the moment they walk in the door.

Eliza Gordon: Office Manager

Eliza Gordon has been involved with Explorer Elementary Charter School from its inception. Eliza majored in psychology at a university in South Africa and also graduated from USCD with a certificate in human resource management. She has been involved in school administration since her arrival in San Diego 20 years ago. Eliza performs a vital function in heading up the administrative functions of the school. She deals with an array of issues, providing an important link to many areas of the community such as the families of our school and the school district as well as handling financial and staffing issues. Eliza says that multi-tasking is the name of the game and keeping your smile and compassion in dealing with all, especially the children, is vital in ensuring the continued growth and success of the school.


Jean Kluver: Project Manager, Director of Development

Jean Kluver oversees all resource development at Explorer, working closely with the Board of Directors and the parents and faculty to raise funds from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government sources. Jean has over twenty years experience working with foundations, non-profits, and community-based organizations. Most recently, she served as Program Director for the International Community Foundation. Prior to moving to San Diego, Ms. Kluver was Executive Director of the Women’s Institute for Housing and Economic Development in Boston, Massachusetts. Ms. Kluver has served as adjunct faculty at the University of Massachusetts Boston, Wheelock College, and Tufts University. She holds a B.S. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts and a MCP from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

 

Zoltan Sarda: Social Curriculum Coordinator for Students, Faculty & Parents

Zoltan Sarda is Social-Emotional Curriculum Coordinator for Students and Faculty, as well as one of Explorer's Kindergarten teachers. He has been teaching for more than 16 years in public and private schools. As a public elementary school teacher in Oceanside and as an M.A. student at UCSD, Mr. Sarda studied and developed curriculum to expand the connection between social-emotional learning and academics. He is currently working on his Doctorate of Education at UCSD.



George Mitchell:Information Technology
  Originally recruited by an Explorer parent, George Mitchell volunteered his time with Explorer School for the first two years of his tenure, maintaining lab computers and the school server. In 2002 George was contracted for all of the schools technology needs, filling an important role maintaining the server and desktop systems for the lab and classrooms. Explorer has grown to be one of the largest networks that George is currently supporting. George has held positions in the field of Information Technology for local San Diego Companies, and now maintains his own business supporting Small Business Owners in the San Diego Region. George has been active with Microsoft Windows Technologies since 1994, and received his training at the UCSD Extension with an emphasis in Information Technology and Microsoft Windows Operating Systems.
