Yes, it is official; our beautiful new Carey Family Library has opened.

This comfortable, inviting facility is buzzing with children and parents. Thanks to the generosity of so many, the library currently has over 6,000 individual volumes and about 500 primary bags.  We also have a small but growing collection of professional and parenting books for the parents in our community. Students can be found reading quietly before school, during lunch and after school as well. During their scheduled library time, each class is engaged while listening to stories, checking out books, learning about things of personal interest to them, conducting research, as well as participating in interesting and challenging projects planned in collaboration with the teacher and the library media teacher, Marsha Korobkin.

 

Two parents, Susie Kime and Bretta Lutze co-chair our library committee and we have a wonderful core group of parent volunteers who help staff the library when Marsha is not at school. If you are interested in working in the library, we do need more volunteers, so stop in and check with the coordinators or Marsha. We also also begin an on-going fundraiser, “Sponsor a Book” Club, which will begin this January. The goal is to have a shelf of new books (with 2006-2007 copyrights) ready to circulate. Students can select a book to “sponsor”. This can be for a birthday, in honor of someone special, or for any reason at all. Parents will be asked to fill out a form telling us what to put on the bookplate and attach $20 to sponsor the book. The sponsoring student will also be the first to check the book out.
